Around The World:: Victoria, British Columbia

Thursday, February 16th, 2012 by admin

If you are looking for a getaway that is rich in history, filled with arts, and the great outdoors then Victoria, British Columbia is the place. Located on the Canadian Island of Vancouver, just north of Washington state, Victoria is easy to navigate. As the capital city of British Columbia, Victoria boasts some of the best scenery in all of Canada. This year the city is celebrating its 150 year anniversary, so it’s no wonder that it’s the next place you should go!

First, we will begin by checking in at The Fairmont Empress, a hotel that sits near the water. Upon entering, it feels as if you have been transported to England. With furnishings and afternoon tea, it is one of the most distinguished and luxurious hotels in Victoria. The Empress is without a doubt the place to stay. The Butchart Gardens are known around the world for it’s unique array of flowers, birds, statues, and gardens. Spend some time shopping in the Market Square boutiques, and enjoy French food and wine at Brasserie L’Ecole. If you’re looking to unwind a bit, then Sapphire Day Spa will do the trick. In the heart of downtown, the spa offers a variety of natural health services, along with massage therapy.

Our next destination takes us literally around the world. The Maldives are a country that is one of the hidden gems of Asia. Located south of Sri Lanka, The Maldives provide an ideal place to get away.

Out of the many various hotels and resorts on the island, the Angsana truly stands apart. With it’s modern villas and facilities, guests are treated to first class luxury. Fill up your day snorkeling, surfing, diving, or even spend a little “me time” at the spa. Whether you want to explore the streets of the capital city Male`, or simply lounge on the beach, there is something in the Maldives for every visitor. Shopping is a unique experience in the Maldives as well, with local shops on each island. Visitors can eat at the first underwater restaurant, Ithaa, offering amazing food and scenic views. Then at the end of the day, relax at the spa with a massage or facial treatment. So get ready for the time of your life with a little sun, surf, and sand!

Around The World:: Amalfi Coast, Italy

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 by Kim of JustKimOnline.com

What I love most about planning travel is my ability to create one of a kind experiences. This often comes from picking the less traditional or known destinations and encouraging others to explore the world outside of their comfort zone. There is so much beauty, culture and architecture throughout the world, that we should try to see as much of it as we can. Exploring new places can open ones mind in unimaginable ways.

Amalfi, Italy is the largest city along the Amalfi Coast and is one of the most adorable places that you can think of. This city has the charm of a small town, rich texture in its architecture and vibrant colors to make you feel as though you are on a fantasy vacation. You can get absorbed by the neighborhoods and cultures. This is truly paradise.

More commonly known as a destination for some of the world’s famous entertainers, it can be a great getaway for anyone. The perfect travel season, itinerary and activities are dependent upon the travelers’ taste. Summers are full of tourists, while the off seasons provide a slower paced experience.

Popular Amalfi history dates back to the 7th century when it was known as a major sea trade location. Some of the historic landmarks date back to the early centuries and were designed to accommodate the needs of those stopping along the coast during the trade. This contributes to a modern posh backdrop for pictures, shopping and dining. You can wander the streets for days and still experience something new and exciting each time. That is the very essence of travel. #Love!

Around The World:: Sanctuary Hotel- Kaiwah Island

Thursday, January 26th, 2012 by admin

It’s been an action packed week for my travel business.  Even in this economy, people realize there is a need to take a vacation and relax.  Sometimes it’s just great to unplug and unwind.  You don’t need a fancy itinerary to do that. All you need is the will to treat yourself to time away from your everyday routine.

There was a time that I would take a vacation to relax and get away from my everyday norm. Ok, let me really clarify that!  Most times I really only tagged an extra day onto a holiday weekend and called that a vacation.  And to be even more honest, I pretty much had a history of not using my vacation leave.  Regardless of the length or structure of the vacation, once I would get to my destination, I would automatically plug up my laptop and cell phone to stay in touch with work.

Unfortunately, my prior routine is all too familiar for so many people.  We get so caught up in life that we forget to take care of ourselves.  I finally got to a point where I would take a week or two off at a time.  I left my cell phone and laptop at work and just enjoyed my time off.  There was an AMAZING difference in how I felt.

This week, we’re going on a journey to a resort where relaxation is the only thing on the itinerary. Virtual wheels up.  Our next stop is the Sanctuary Hotel at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina.  Located about 30 minutes outside of Historic Charleston, the Sanctuary Hotel offers a luxurious golf and beach haven for all, even for those with the most persnickety taste. It is the ultimate getaway and the perfect place to unwind, relax and recharge.

Around The World:: Las Vegas

Thursday, January 12th, 2012 by admin

Editor’s Note:: We at POSH are very excited to introduce our first new update to 2012- our weekly column by Kim O’Neil with information on the most fabulous places around the world. If you’d like to see a place reviewed, let us know; she’s here to teach us all something new!

_________________________

I’m so excited to launch “Around the World with Kim” this week. Unlike traditional travel inspired blogs that can sometimes provide too much information, I’ll concentrate on visual elements as I virtually travel with you to great places throughout the world.

When planning any trip for myself, or for others, I keep 5 basic things in mind. They are where to: stay; play; shop; eat and relax. In my opinion, these are the elements of a great trip. Anything else that you plan can be filled in based on the travel experience that want to have. With each post, I’ll recommend one or more options in the categories to give you a basic travel foundation should you decide to travel to one of virtual destinations or recommend the destination to others.

I’d love to hear some of your recommendations too. Please leave comments and tell me some of your favorite places each week!! I’ll be checking and responding.

With that in mind, let’s get started around the world. Virtual wheels up and let’s take flight to our first destination – Las Vegas, Nevada.

Vuela Alto,
Kim

Las Vegas is one of my favorite getaways, not because of the gambling because I don’t like to gamble. Quite honestly, I can play a slot game or two in the airport and be totally satisfied.  And yes, if you have not been to Las Vegas before, slot machines welcome you as soon as you get off of the plane inside the terminals.  :-) But outside of being known for the immense gambling and club night  life, Las Vegas offers a unique playground where there is something for everyone in your family to enjoy.
