Now that the weather is starting to feel more and more like Spring, I’ve found myself rediscovering the bright tank tops and sundresses in my closet. Unfortunately, my arms aren’t quite ready for the warm temperatures. I need Michelle Obama arms and I need them now. Thanks to this Tone It Up video, I might finally be able to get rid of that stubborn roll between that sits under my shoulder. I mean really…what is that?! The great thing about this workout is that it hits of the major trouble areas we desperately try to tighten before bikini season begins: arms, back, abs, butt and thighs. Try it out and let us know what you think!
The Law Of Health
Buddy System::
Tuesday, March 27th, 2012 by adminLast weekend I went back to my alma mater, James Madison University, for a quick girl’s weekend with my sorority sisters. On Sunday, after laying around the house for hours, my sorority sister, Angel, and I decided to hold each other accountable this week for our running. I pledged to run at least 15 miles and she pledged to practice a full 10k since she’s running her first one in Richmond on Saturday. We both pledged to keep each other in check.
True to her word, I got a text yesterday afternoon saying “Ok sis…when are you running today?” Unfortunately, Monday’s are my late day so I missed my run, but I promised to get it done today and I definitely will. Excuses might work with your trainer, or even yourself, but they definitely don’t work with your friends.
So what’s the moral of my story? Find a workout buddy! You’ve heard it before but it bears repeating: you will always show up for a workout if you know your friend is there waiting for you. Sweating your hair out on the treadmill is much more enjoyable if you can discuss the latest drama on Basketball Wives with a friend. And embarrassing yourself in a Zumba class is ten times funnier if you bring an equally awkward/choreography-challenged friend. So pick up your phone, call/text your best girlfriend and schedule a gym date now!
I’m Dropping 10 Pounds… Want To Join Me?
Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 by LibbyI know that Tuesday’s are usually when Jerrell comes and educates us all on health and fitness, but I asked her if I could take over for one day to talk to you guys about something I’m really thrilled about. I hope that you’ll keep reading, because I think that what I’m about to let you guys in on could really help change things around for your health.
I want to be open with you about my struggles with health and fitness. I, like most people, commit to a program or a diet or a way of eating and within 2 weeks completely give up and move right back to my old habits. But I realized just last week that if I am expecting my body to give me the results that I want, than I better do all the work that I can to make sure that happens. In this case, I’d like to be toned and the healthiest I can be. Not just for me, but for my future, for my family ,for the children that I someday hope to have… I need to get in the best shape of my life so that I am armed and ready for whatever comes my way. With some health scares in my own past and in the present of some of my family members, it’s imperative to me that I educate myself on diet (knowledge is totally power in this realm!) and exercise, and then that I actually put that knowledge into action. No more half-hearted attempts, no more 2 weeks stints on a diet– this time it has to be for real! I’m determined to make a life change and I hope that you’ll join me in this!
Here’s how I’m going to change my reality:
JerrellĀ introduced me to the Tone It Up team a few months ago and I’ve done some of their workouts here and there and they are GOOD! I’m talking sweating out of my mind and beyond sore the next day good. But this last week on twitter they announced that they are partnering with SELF magazine to help all women drop 10, 20 and even 30 pounds. Every day you’ll get emails and workouts and recipes to follow to help you achieve this goal. All you have to do is sign up on the Tone It Up website to be a part of the team. The best part is that it starts TODAY! You have no excuse, no waiting one more today, the decision to change your body and your health begins RIGHT NOW.
Obviously this isn’t going to be easy, but I don’t want it to be. I want it to be a struggle so that I grow from this experience. If it’s not hard, I won’t stick with it. Remember, this isn’t about achieving a certain look, it’s about achieving YOUR optimal health!
I created a twitter account where I’ll be checking in with the TIU team and posting my results. Please follow me on this journey so that we can encourage each other to keep pressing towards our goals.
Will you join me today? I know you can do it!
XO,
Libby
A Transition Meal::
Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 by JerrellI am beyond excited about this Spring weather we’re having, but after the chilly weekend we just had I’m still feeling like I’m in a seasonal transition. When it comes to food, I’m not quite ready to leave my Winter foods behind. For dinner last night, I made pasta with a light tomato sauce and later this week I’m planning to make Gwyneth Paltrow’s Quick Roast Chicken. I love this recipe because it’s a full meal with full flavor, but it’s still light enough for the season thanks to the farmer’s market salad on the side. And I’m a little embarrassed to say this but, I am super excited to de-bone my first chicken. That will definitely be an interesting moment in our kitchen! Watch the video below or find the full recipe here. http://goop.com/newsletter/44/en
Have a great week everyone!
I Can Do Anything Good::
Tuesday, March 6th, 2012 by JerrellI’ve been having a stressful couple of weeks at school. While I would like to say I’m dealing with it by working out, I ran for the first time last week and literally felt my lungs screaming. Whenever I’m having a rough day, I watch this video and instantly start smiling. Hope it brightens up your day too!
xoxo, Jerrell
