Posh Police:: Met Gala

Thursday, May 10th, 2012 by admin

Here at POSH, we’re obviously all obsessed with fashion (it’s a requirement to get the job!), so anytime a new trend or awards show rolls around, we’re furiously sending e-mails and texts back and forth about our thoughts. So we figured it would be fun to include you guys in all of our discussions. Every week, in a new segment we’re calling the Posh Police, we’ll take a trend, an idea or a total fashion mishap and weigh in, and then we’ll ask you to give us your thoughts as well.

This past week was the fashion prom- the Met Gala event in New York. It’s THE fashion event of the year where the attendees are encouraged to take risks and try daring, bold fashion choices. It’s honestly our favorite event of the year. Some play it safe, but most designers take this opportunity to really truly show what they’re about. This year’s fashion was no exception, there were a lot of incredible looks, but we chose 5 that we all thought were worth talking about.

Beyonce in Givenchy

Jewell: I know she wants us to know that she’s back, but a little coverage on the new mom would have been nice!

Libby: This was my absolute favorite dress of the night. I actually wrote a whole blog post on why I think she’s perfection (you can check that out here), but basically she changed my life in this gown. I love a good risk!

Gennifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier

Jewell: My absolute favorite.  The cut was grown yet very fresh and sexy.

Libby: Absolutely, 100% loved this color on Gennifer Goodwin. I think she looks completely striking. The only thing that I really disagree with are those lilac shoes… why? She should have stuck to something more neutral and less costumy, in my opinion.

Rosario Dawson in Calvin Klein

Jewell: I love classics and black, there is a lot to be said for no fuss dressing.  I’d buy it!

Libby: Ah-ma-zing. Her body? Flawless. Nothing quite like a slim fitting Calvin Klein dress on a beautiful woman. I love that this isn’t a typical fabric or style that we’d see from Calvin. It was a good risk for both parties.

Solange Knowles in Rachel Roy

Jewell: Solange looked radiant and confident…. you have to love her.

Libby: It’s honestly unfair to me how beautiful Solange looks in the hardest color humanly possible to pull off: yellow. But yet it blends so flawlessly with her skin tone and she radiates in this dress! The Knowles girls absolutely killed the style game for me at the Met Gala.

Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan Atelier

Jewell: No designer drapes a woman like Donna!

Libby: I loved this. Nina Dobrev looks so elegant, so flawless and that train is more than anything I could ever imagine. This was such a home run look!

Dream A Little {Fashion} Dream::

Friday, April 13th, 2012 by admin

If you are in the DC metro area like me you must be wondering where is spring! With temps in the low 60′s (if we’re lucky), we are forced to dream of sunny days. Dreaming for me means a fabulous website with designer ensembles! The Posh team has a running joke that I seem to have a biased affection for the over priced, I say if you’re going to dream, go all the way! Donna Karan seems to always have something perfect for every season and the unpredictable in-between. She covers the “over 30″ curves with a sexy assurance that makes every woman glad God made her just that! Check out what she has in stores now……. and dream a little. At least we can splurge in our minds!

Floral Lovin::

Friday, March 2nd, 2012 by admin

One of our favorite Spring trends that we are seeing all over the stores, blogosphere and everyday life is floral print. It feels undeniably Springy, bright and wonderfully feminine. Whether you choose to incorporate it in small details like your cell phone case, or in an all over print maxi dress, this is one trend that you cannot overlook. We put together a few inspiration pieces, as well as our favorite floral prints you can purchase in stores. Take a look-

From left: Asos Maxi Dress \\ Antipodium House Rules Dress \\  Alice + Olivia ‘Sara’

From left: Citizens of Humanity Mandy Floral Roll Up Jeans \\  Paige Denim Floral Ankle Peg Skinny \\ Current/Elliott ‘The Stiletto Floral’

What do you think about the floral trend? Will you be incorporating these pieces into your Spring wardrobe??

One Look, Two Ways:: Your LBD

Thursday, January 12th, 2012 by Jerrell

When building your wardrobe, there really is nothing more important, or versatile, than the Little Black Dress. An LBD is always appropriate whether you’re wearing it to a meeting with your boss, a first date, dinner with the in-laws or a cocktail party with your girlfriends. Investing in a good quality LBD that flatters your figure is a must. From there, knowing how to accessorize it based on the occasion is essential.

One Dress, Two Ways

For work, pair it with simple accessories, modest pumps and a functional, but fashionable handbag. For a night out, choose attention-grabbing accessories: bright pumps, big cocktail rings and fun clutches. I chose this LBD by The Row because it’s conservative enough for work thanks to it’s knee-length, but its slim fit and waist detail allow it to stand out without much else. When shopping for your own LBD, make sure that it fits perfectly, has a little something that helps it stand apart from the rest of the black dresses in the world, and that the fabric can be worn during all seasons. That way you’ll be sure to get the most wear out of it.

Happy Shopping!

The Year of The Lady::

Thursday, January 5th, 2012 by admin

For those of you who love my Law of Health column on Tuesday’s, you’re in for a treat! Starting this week, I’ll be bringing you the latest in fashion trends and all of the ways you can wear them, from work to the weekend. One of the biggest complaints we hear from Posh shoppers is that their closets are full of work clothes that they can’t wear anywhere else. I’m here to help you select items that can be re-assembled to take you wherever you need to go.

Year of the Lady

This week, I wanted to share one of my favorite trends for the Spring: Ladylike Dressing. I like to think of it as “Ladies Who Lunch” meets “Ladies Who Launch.” Start looking for pieces that feel sophisticated, yet modern. Like these Repetto ballet flats, but in a red patent leather. Also, focus on pairing classic items, with more modern pieces like this classic J.Crew jacket with those fabulous Charlotte Olympia pumps. The great thing is that all of these items, with the switch of a handbag, are as appropriate for the office as they are for dinner with girlfriends. And that makes them worth the investment.
