Designer Day

Designer Day:: K. Hendrix

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011 by admin

You know that we can’t keep a good secret quiet for long, so we’re so excited to share our new favorite designer with you. Posh readers, meet the incredible Kimberly Hendrix–

We met Kimberly through our friends at White Noise Showroom in New York, and literally cannot get enough of her fresh perspective, inventive use of materials and gorgeous hand detailing on all of her pieces.

Kimberly has always been an interior designer, vintage collector and seamstress extraordinaire, but in 2007, she decided to fast forward her passions for design and find a way to promote her unique vision and point of view. Over the next three years Kimberly moved to los angeles, developed both rtw and couture collections and co-designed a full runway collection for Mercedes Benz fall 2008 fashion week.

We fell in love with her collection because it’s not like anything else we’ve ever seen. Every piece is uniquely handmade with gorgeous detailing, hand shredding,  intricate bead work and really flattering cuts. And better yet, every item is created from high end, 100% reclaimed or recycled vintage materials. Her whole line feels like it’s bursting with femininity but with just enough edge to make you feel fresh and modern.

Here are just some of our favorite pieces for Fall/Winter:

We are OBSESSED with those sequin pants! How perfect for the upcoming holiday season!

We knew that her collection would fit perfectly in with our client’s love of unique, handmade pieces, so we’ve added K. Hendrix as our latest POSH vendor in Posh Boutique- seriously run to get your pieces before they’re completely sold out.

p.s. we’re having a little giveaway with her in the next week or so! Check back to win a very custom K.Hendrix piece!

New York Fashion Week:: Callula Lillibelle

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 by admin

We were privileged enough to be invited to the Spring 2012 Callula Lillibelle presentation at New York Fashion Week. Designers Melanie Fraser Hart and William Calvert channeled a major icon of the past: Sophia Loren. They asked themselves who she would be today, what kind of fashion statement she’d be making, what kind of woman she’d want to portray in today’s world. Would she be feminine, strong, striking, colorful and bold? If so, they perfectly depicted her in their collection. Beautiful hues of neon corals, varying blues, blacks, whites and enough polka dots to fill every girls dream closet.

We loved the way they mixed polka dots with the prints and the lace. It makes the polka dots look more adult, glamorous and easy to wear.

One of the things that we were so impressed by with this collection was how well they covered every need that today’s Sophia Loren might have. They made beautiful trousers that could be worn in the office while paired with a gorgeous lace top and a strong blazer to complete the look. They had dresses with a vintage 40′s feel and then they had floor length sheer dresses that would be perfect for an event. They had more casual looks worn with flats and sandals, and they had the most gorgeous swimsuit cover ups that are so gorgeous you want to skip the pool all together. The Callula Lillibelle woman has a look ready for every event, and we absolutely loved that.

The accessories were really what pulled the looks together for us. Metallic shoes, woven, intricate bags, bright nails, gorgeous bright pink lips and soft, simple, sexy hair completed these looks and made every last piece very ready to wear.

Overall, we want every piece from this collection. We cannot wait for the bright pinks, polka dots and chiffon to invade our wardrobe come Spring 2012! Well done, Callula Lillibelle, you’ve reminded us what it means to be a stylish, feminine vixen in today’s world. You’ve shown us how to incorporate bold ideas into simple concepts that we can wear to dinner, to the office or to the ballet. We love the woman you’ve created!

“Every woman has a moment [when] she’s so excited about a pair of shoes. They have the ability to transform your attitude and the way you look—your legs are longer, your butt’s higher. It’s that magical moment when women feel sexy and own it.”

____________________________________________________________________

  • Profession: Shoe Designer
  • Resides In: New York
  • Former Profession: Runway model

Born and raised in Chicago, Mr. Atwood studied art and architecture at Southern Illinois University before he headed East to pursue an education in fashion at F.I.T. After graduating school, he headed straight to the runways where he had a 7 year lucrative career as a male model all over Europe. It was during this time that he got his break in the design world and was given the chance to work with Gianni Versace, where he was quickly promoted to the head of Versace accessories. He was there for 9 years before leaving to pursue his own label.

Founded in 2001, Brian Atwood quickly picked up steam because of their intelligent, sexy design and thought provoking ad campaigns.  With Brian’s background at Versace, he was able to take his experience with luxury material and excellent quality and turn it into an extremely desirable shoe label that celebrities couldn’t keep their hands off of. He continues to push the boundaries in the shoe world by creating extremely beautiful, unique, sexy shoes that continue to stop us dead in our tracks season after season.

We literally love every single shoe that he’s put out for Fall 2011, but we tried to whittle down the list to the pairs that we knew that you really couldn’t live without. We are loving the studs, the feathers and the sky high heels, mixed with the perfect amount of leopard print and the bow details… are you dying? We’re completely dying.

The September Issue::

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011 by admin

The fashion industry is comprised of hundreds of pivotal moments each year, such as markets, quarterly advertising campaigns and the daily routine of the industry leaders, but it’s marked by 3 main moments that we anxiously anticipate all year long: Spring/Summer Fashion Week, Fall/Winter Fashion Week and the September Issue.

The all powerful September Issue, each years largest magazine, is packed to the very brim with the best fashion and trends for the upcoming season, as well as having the largest number of advertisements in any issue they’ll have all year long. These advertisement are crucial to the financial success of the magazine for the rest of the year.

So why September instead of any other month in the year? Easy: September is a time of natural transition for everyone. People are going back to school and need a new wardrobe, the season is getting colder and you know that you’ll need new Fall clothes, Christmas is coming up and you begin to put together a list of gifts you’ll be needing. It’s the perfect time of year to reach out to your audience, because everyone needs something.

Each year there is a race to the finish line: who can have the best cover, the most advertisements and the most compelling editorial spreads inside their issue. Each September Issue takes almost a year of planning to complete, and who you put on the cover is as important as the content inside.

When rumors of the cover girl circulate for months beforehand, the magazines have to make sure they don’t disappoint when the issue is actually released. Will they use a famous supermodel or a well known public figure? Most magazines today are using celebrities to help grab readers attention in hopes that they’ll actually purchase the issue and take it home.

  • Every year, the two largest magazines are Vogue and Vanity Fair, as the two compete for ad pages and total units sold.
  • The largest issue of Vogue was in September of 2007, with Sienna Miller on the cover, with had 727 ad pages.
  • In 2009, The September Issue was released. This was a documentary that followed US Vogue editor Anna Wintour as she created the all powerful issue, dealt with daily life at the most influential magazine in the world, and gave us an inside scoop to the editorial world of the fashion magazine.
  • This year’s September issue of Vogue has sold 584 ad pages, which totals $92 million in revenue for the magazine.
  • It’s been confirmed that supermodel Kate Moss will grace this years Vogue cover. Her July wedding, photographed by famous fashion photographer Mario Testino, will be the theme.
  • This year’s U.S. Vogue comes with a CD that gives you a special insight into this months editorial shoots.

The September issue of Vogue has yet to be released, and while that will definitely be our favorite, some of the other magazines that have released theirs are definitely putting up a good fight this year. If this is any indication, which is hugely is, of the upcoming season, it’s going to be beautiful, daring and a lot of fun. Here are some of our favorites so far:

Supermodel Karlie Kloss for Harper’s Bazaar Australia

Singer Beyonce for Harper’s Bazaar UK

Supermodels Liu Wen, Fei Fei Sun, Du Juan, Shu Pei, Ming Xi & Sui He for Vogue China

Actress Rachel Bilson for InStyle

Designer Day:: Boy Meets Girl

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011 by admin

_________________________________________________________________________

Always destined to be a fashion designer, by the age of four she was outfitting her classmates and staging fashion shows. She grew up surrounding herself with great fashion and design and soon began working closely with iconic mega-brands such as Izod, Elie Tahari, Zandra Rhodes and Elsa Klensch. She grew increasingly aware of the need for an edgy yet wearable, stylish yet casually classic brand in the contemporary marketplace. Boy Meets Girl was born.

As well as being an cutting edge fashion designer, she is a full fledged philanthropist too. She has teamed up with Bloomingdales and teen celebrity Sammi Hanratty to fight bullying in schools. She has collaborated with Urban Outfitters to raise breast cancer awareness. From ethics in business practices to health and well-being, Igel is consistent and persistent in her philanthropic efforts.

We fell in love with Boy Meets Girl after one look at their amazing, funky clothing. We will always be impressed by a company that manages to set new trends by boldly following their own definition of cool and beautiful. We are so attracted to their cuts, their adorable logo and their fun use of pattern and bold print. This is their design philosophy, which also happens to perfectly describe the POSH woman…

“She has a quality possessed by a rare few, which draws in all the rest with magnetic force.
She is indescribable, but yet you always know her when you see her.
She is subtle.
She has an air about her, like a fine wine, an intoxicating multi-layered complexity…
She has that certain something deep down inside that tells her with no uncertainty that she is alive.”

Boy Meets Girl is about falling in love. It’s about being a woman, a strong woman. It’s about being independent, but being open to new opportunities. Boy Meets Girl, to POSH, is about standing out among the rest; not being afraid to risk, to fly, to never fear falling. Boy Meets Girl is a symbol of beauty, of fashion, of art, and we believe so strongly in the message that their clothing conveys.

We love Boy Meets Girl so much that we are carrying them at Shop Posh Boutique for Fall!

Boy Meets Girl will be available in the boutique next week, and we may be having a contest over on our facebook page later on this week that you definitely won’t want to miss!
