Posh Police:: Met Gala

Thursday, May 10th, 2012 by admin

Here at POSH, we’re obviously all obsessed with fashion (it’s a requirement to get the job!), so anytime a new trend or awards show rolls around, we’re furiously sending e-mails and texts back and forth about our thoughts. So we figured it would be fun to include you guys in all of our discussions. Every week, in a new segment we’re calling the Posh Police, we’ll take a trend, an idea or a total fashion mishap and weigh in, and then we’ll ask you to give us your thoughts as well.

This past week was the fashion prom- the Met Gala event in New York. It’s THE fashion event of the year where the attendees are encouraged to take risks and try daring, bold fashion choices. It’s honestly our favorite event of the year. Some play it safe, but most designers take this opportunity to really truly show what they’re about. This year’s fashion was no exception, there were a lot of incredible looks, but we chose 5 that we all thought were worth talking about.

Beyonce in Givenchy

Jewell: I know she wants us to know that she’s back, but a little coverage on the new mom would have been nice!

Libby: This was my absolute favorite dress of the night. I actually wrote a whole blog post on why I think she’s perfection (you can check that out here), but basically she changed my life in this gown. I love a good risk!

Gennifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier

Jewell: My absolute favorite.  The cut was grown yet very fresh and sexy.

Libby: Absolutely, 100% loved this color on Gennifer Goodwin. I think she looks completely striking. The only thing that I really disagree with are those lilac shoes… why? She should have stuck to something more neutral and less costumy, in my opinion.

Rosario Dawson in Calvin Klein

Jewell: I love classics and black, there is a lot to be said for no fuss dressing.  I’d buy it!

Libby: Ah-ma-zing. Her body? Flawless. Nothing quite like a slim fitting Calvin Klein dress on a beautiful woman. I love that this isn’t a typical fabric or style that we’d see from Calvin. It was a good risk for both parties.

Solange Knowles in Rachel Roy

Jewell: Solange looked radiant and confident…. you have to love her.

Libby: It’s honestly unfair to me how beautiful Solange looks in the hardest color humanly possible to pull off: yellow. But yet it blends so flawlessly with her skin tone and she radiates in this dress! The Knowles girls absolutely killed the style game for me at the Met Gala.

Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan Atelier

Jewell: No designer drapes a woman like Donna!

Libby: I loved this. Nina Dobrev looks so elegant, so flawless and that train is more than anything I could ever imagine. This was such a home run look!

Style Star:: Kerry Washington

One of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, Kerry Washington never fails us. She’s an actress, political activist, L’Oreal spokesperson and fashion enthusiast. You’ll often see her sitting front row at major fashion shows like Calvin Klein and Jason Wu, or you’ll see her stunning on the red carpet in her favorite brands like Valentino, Marchesa and Michael Kors, amongst other major design houses. Here are some of our favorite Kerry Washington moments-

Style Star:: Elizabeth Olsen

You already know that we’re huge fans of Mary Kate & Ashley, but we think it’s time that you fell in love with their beautiful, daring younger sister Elizabeth. The award winning 22 year old is no stranger to the spotlight. Growing up with two of the most famous sisters in the world gave her the opportunity to learn the business from a very young age. She clearly got their perfect complexion gene, their deep love for Chanel and couture clothing and their unbelievable poise on the red carpet. With a stunning smile and bright eyes, she commands every situation with her unique perspective, her willingness to take a risk with shapes and colors and the way she makes every single look feel so special, casual or red carpet. Here are some of our favorite Elizabeth Olsen moments-

Question: What do you think about her style?

The Reality of Reality::

Friday, November 4th, 2011 by admin

Please tell me you’ve had enough…I have! If I see one more irate article on anything Kardashian I think I might scream! I certainly have a few reality show favorites that I view for entertainment, but when it becomes “the” news story, I’m challenged to question the mindset of America.

Isn’t it abnormal for people to feel scammed about a marriage that they weren’t in? Do we really feel that because something is on TV that we own it… or the people? Is the reality of our own reality so daunting that we need someone else’s drama? Is that reality at all?

Yes the K girls have had the attention of the world for a while. We’ve laughed with them, been appalled at some of their subject matter and even marveled at their beauty. We were entertained and that’s where it should end! 72 days….isn’t that a reality in Hollywood? Weren’t most people betting against them? Seems like the public’s shock is just as much a scam. In reality, I wish the best for both of the K’,s but like I always say… reality TV is never a good look.

Life’s Posh….. Live it!

Ad Campaign:: Janet Jackson for Blackglama

Friday, October 7th, 2011 by admin

Luxury brand Blackglama has chosen Janet Jackson to be the face of their campaign “What Becomes a Legend Most” for the second year in a row. Past Blackglama spokeswomen include mega icons like Sophia Loren, Diana Ross, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor, so Janet is truly carrying an honorable roll.

We honestly think these images are so gorgeous, that we couldn’t not share. Most of us would all agree that Janet is a total legend. Janet is the image of a strong, empowered woman who works hard, powers through life’s toughest challenges and always manages to end up on top. She’s gorgeous (she only gets better with age-look at those abs!), has an amazing presence and is an incredible performer. Who better to remind women of what becomes a legend most?
