Nail Art Mania::

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012 by admin

With our motto being “Do Something New” for 2012, I’ve been forced to come up with creative ways to incorporate that into my everyday life. I’ve done new hair styles, worn brighter colors of clothing and, most recently, taken up a complete obsession with my nail polish. One of the most fun trends to emerge on the scene in the past year has been exceptional, creative and daring nail art. Did you know that nail polish sales were higher than lipstick sales in 2011? Perhaps it’s because it’s the quickest, and most affordable, way to change your look, or perhaps we can blame it on Pinterest for giving us instant access to such creative individuals creating this {seemingly easy} art on themselves everyday. Either way, it’s a great way that we can all incorporate something new into our look really easily. Here are some of my favorite manicures that I’ll definitely be incorporating into my Spring beauty routine–

See, they aren’t all crazy! Changing up your nail polish is all about just trying a new color! If you always do french tips, why not try a color? If you always do something bright, try a gorgeous neutral. It’s such a great playground! If you’re like me and doing your own manicures at home makes your nail beds look similar to that of a 6 year old, then take these pictures into your local nail place and ask them to recreate them. Or, if you’re up for the challenge, surf around pinterest and take a look at all the remarkable tutorials.

What do you think about these manicures? Will you be willing to Try Something New in your beauty routine??

My Top Six::

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 by Libby

I was cleaning out my bathroom earlier this week and realized that I had way too many products that I bought, used once and then never used again. And on the other hand, I had multiples of products that I try, love and will never give up! I realized that I’m wasting way too much extra cash on products that I barely use when I know that there are products that I’ve tried, tested and swear by. So to help keep my bathroom organized, my beauty bank account full and my skin clear and bright, I’ve made a list of the 6 products that I absolutely cannot live without. From here on, I’ll stick to these 6 base products and only add new things {like trend items} when the season changes or when something really amazing peaks my interest.

Image Skincare- Ageless Collection

This line was introduced to me by my dermatologist and it’s insane how well it works. My favorite is their “Ageless The Max” product, you can read my full review of it here, but just know that this is worth every penny of it’s $90 price tag.

Juice Beauty- Stem Cellular Repair Eye Treatment

Let’s face it, I’m getting really old and my need for a good eye cream is immediate. I love Juice Beauty and I love this eye treatment even more because I will literally see a difference overnight in the bags under my eyes. {not kidding}. You can read my full review of this product here.

Boscia- Luminizing Black Mask

I’ve already openly expressed my obsession with Boscia, and this is the mask where it all began. I just ran out, and I need a refill in the worst possible way. And let’s be honest, so do you. Don’t even try to tell me that you don’t want brighter, clearer skin. You do. Go buy it, and then buy one for me as well. Oh and Santa sweetie, while you’re at it, pick me up their Detoxifying Black Cleanser- I’m dying to try it.

Revlon- Strawberry Suede Matte Lipstick

I love this Revlon shade, but I’m really into Matte Lipstick of any color right now. This is my favorite lip trend that is definitely here to stay with me throughout Spring/Summer. If you’re interested, I’ll show you next week how you can achieve the perfect, smear-free matte lip that will last for hours!

Chanel Levres Scrintillantes Glossimer- in Bagatelle

This is the best lipgloss ever created. It lasts, it shines and it’s absolutely beautiful. If you’re going to treat yourself, start with Chanel and you will never be disappointed.

Jane Iredale- Pressed Foundation

You know how sensitive I am about the products that I put on my skin, and I am in LOVE with Jare Iredale products because they are 100% pure and free of any type of chemicals that could clog your pores. Jane Iredale actually makes the most pure mineral makeup on the market. Because it’s so pure, You could leave this makeup in your bag for 5 years and it would still be good because there’s nothing for bacteria to build on. It’s definitely not a bargain priced product, so this has definitely become my one major splurge product. Make sure you pick up their Antioxidant Hydration Spray to set your powder with- it keeps your makeup on for HOURS.

Cheap Thrills::

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 by Libby

I’ve found that sometimes the greatest pick me up to life’s upsetting moments is new beauty products. Maybe it’s just a great distraction or maybe it really works, but something about actively making yourself feel more beautiful makes everything feel like it’s going to be okay. Honestly, try it. Having a bad day? Run to CVS and pick up a new lipgloss– I promise you that your day will turn around! Well, because it’s a little bit absurd to over indulge in our every bad mood, and because this habit can get slighly expensive, I’ve created a mini list of cheap beauty pick-me ups that are guaranteed to turn your day around–

E.l.f Studio compact Blush/Bronzer- $3.00

I absolutely love this little compact! It has your blush and your bronzer, so there’s no need to buy, or carry around, two different products. I wish that the pigment stayed on your skin a little bit longer, but for $3.00, I seriously cannot complain. I have one at home and one in my purse at all times!

Palladio Tinted Lip Balm- $3.99

I never leave home without Palladio’s tinted lip balm. It is extremely nourishing on your lips, so it leaves them really smooth long after the color has worn off, and the tint adds just enough color and shimmer to add a little something extra to my look. When I’m not feeling like wearing a heavy lipgloss, this is my absolute go to. I love their “Cotton Candy” color.

Rimmel London- Sexy Curves Mascara- $7.19

Mascara is the one item that I would take with me a desert island, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise that buying a new tube to plump up my lashes makes me feel awesome. I am currently using Sexy Curves, which I adore, but just about any new tube that promises to darken and lengthen works for me!

Nail Polish Change- $8-$10

If you’re running low on cash or time but you want a quick pick me up, go to any nail salon and just ask for a polish change. They’ll still cut and file, obviously, but by skipping the part of the manicure where they rub your hands down and pay fine attention to the detail of your cuticles will save you almost $20 and about 30 minutes of your time . It’s fast, easy and you’ll feel so much more pulled together when you see your freshly updated fingers!

What about you? What are your beauty pick me ups??

A Glossy Blogroll::

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 by Libby

Last week I showed you guys one of my favorite websites, The Beauty Department, and after such a great response, this week I want to show you guys just a few other completely inspiring beauty blogs that I can’t peel myself away from. Like I said, I use these blogs to get great ideas about new products, new hair styles and new beauty tips. It’s always so fun to see beauty from the perspective of someone else–

The Glossarie is a blog that I found through the Washingtonian’s write up of up and coming bloggers to follow from the DC area, and it has since become a daily stop in my blogging rounds. Lara, the site’s owner and self proclaimed beauty addict, has a great eye for new beauty trends (like these new Spring nail polish colors) and picks up great little products that she tries and reviews so that we don’t have to. Plus, added bonus, her posts are short and sweet and to the point- who has time for long blogs anymore?!

_________________________________________________________________

Into The Gloss is my resource for high-fashion beauty. Emily Weiss, the site’s founder and chief editor, does backstage beauty reporting, scores major interviews with the beauty industries top players and also offers her own reviews. Reading Into The Gloss gives you a behind the scenes peak into a world that every girl secretly longs to belong to.

Whatever Eva Wants is written by Eva Chen, the beauty and health director for Teen Vogue. She’s amazing, down to earth and unbelievably talented when it comes to spotting up and coming beauty trends. Her life is enviable (who wouldn’t want every bottle of new nail polish to land on your desk every AM?!) and fabulous, but she makes time to talk to all inquiring minds. You can submit questions to her on her blog and she’ll write back giving you honest answers. PS, I highly recommend that you follow her on twitter too- it’s enviable fun all day long.

What are your favorite beauty blogs? Let me know, I’d love to add them to my blogroll!

30 Second Hair::

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012 by Libby

If you read this week’s Inspiration Monday, you know that we’re all about doing something  new this year. For me, I’m taking that pretty literally and I made a vow to myself to do something new in my beauty routine everyday. I picked up 4 new lipsticks and I’m trying all new shades, I’m switching my purse out 2-3 times a week, I’m trying new skincare lines and I’m changing the way my hair looks everyday.

I know that making time for your hair in the morning can feel overwhelming, but the end result is always worth it. Don’t you love how confident you feel throughout the day when you know that your hair looks amazing? Luckily, I don’t have a ton of time to spend on my hair either, so I’ve found some really great, really easy hairstyles that we can all start working into our morning routines.

Take a look at this video below and see a totally chic hairstyle that can be done in less than 30 seconds. Seriously:

Do you have any easy hairstyles that you swear by? Leave them in the comment section below so I can try them for myself!
