The fashion world is ablaze right now with new styles, colors and prints, as all the top houses and designers are showing their Resort 2012 collections right now. A Resort Collection is a ready-to-wear collection put out by the design houses and brands as sort of the bridge between Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer. They mix a bit of the previous fall/winter silhouettes and colors while giving you a sneak peek at the upcoming Spring/Summer collections. It’s a bit of a bridge between the seasons. This collection hits stores sometime around November and is the collection that is in stores for the longest period of time. Originally, a Resort Collection was intended for the wealthier woman or the “more seasoned jet-setters” that were vacationing during the colder months of the year, therefore would need brighter colors and lighter fabrics. Today, resort collections are targeted to customers who are finished with Fall buying, but are not yet ready for Spring. Like we said, this is the bridge that closes the gap between Fall and Spring. Often times a Resort Collection is our favorite collection because it embodies all of our favorite parts about each season; you’ll have the structure of Fall/Winter with the breezy, feminine air of Spring/Summer. It’s the perfect blend of the two.
Here are some of our favorite Resort Collections from this upcoming season::
Lanvin::
Alber Elbaz, head designer of Lanvin, has created a collection that we absolutely cannot get enough of. We also adore his dramatic presentation, the way the models are moving about and the way their hair is everywhere; it’s a very beautiful contast to the formal gowns. The rest of the collection is more informal, but we could not get over the flow and movement, the overall feel, of these three gowns.

Monique Lhuillier::
Monique Lhuillier is known mostly for her out-of-this-world red carpet dresses and bridal gowns, changed things up with this collection by saying that she wanted to start dressing her client “before 5pm,” meaning that she wanted to create a collection they could wear in an every day setting; to work, for play, around town, ect. So she played with zebra prints in shades of blue and chambra skirtsuits that are perfect for a work setting. Of course, no Monique show would be complete without a few drop dead gorgeous gowns, but you’ll see how perfectly she combined the world of casual and luxury, some of her floor length gowns could even be paired with flat sandals as a dressed down look!

Naeem Khan::
Naeem Khan has made a collection of clothing that seems fit for a woman of stature and power. It’s no surprise that Mrs. Obama herself adores his intricate, feminine detailing; his modest hem lines that don’t sacrifice sensuality and his beautiful punch of colors. Mr. Khan, known for his intricate detail work, spends lengthy amount of time on each garment to make it just right. One skirt takes 26 different color threads and over 1000 hours to make! That is the definition of attention to detail.

Donna Karan::
You know when you see something, and the only words you can find to say are, “ohmygod, this is amazing.” ? That’s exactly how we felt clicking through every image of Donna Karan’s collection, mouth completely agape. Just look at each image, inspect each garment. Look at the color choices, the draping combined with the structure, the feminine silhouettes and the punch of red lips…it’s all just stunning. What we have always loved most about Donna is that she is as much a customer of her line as she is a designer, which is why she does things like hide a support system in those beautiful snow-white column dresses, to make them as functional as they are stunning.

Zac Posen::
Our favorite Resort 2012 collection absolutely has to be by American designer Zac Posen. Inspired by American Royalty, Zac says about this collection,”It’s about how to be dressed up and posed, but still cool; Patti Smith in a gown and Penelope Tree in a trench.” Posen’s use of silhouettes and constrasting shapes are what make this collection our favorite. A skin fitted bodice that opens up into a flutter of ruffles at the waist is as exciting as it is beautiful. And the best piece of the whole collection? A 720- yeard, hand-dyed vermillion confection with a swirling, mermaid train (pictured above). Is it not one of the most stunning dresses you’ve ever seen?
